Many people in this community know Krista May for her efforts with the Brazos Progressives, as well as her work for Texas A&M as the World Shakespeare Bibliography associate editor, as well as teacher, Queer Studies Working Group member, and a GLBTA advisor.
Krista has been on KEOS in the past, discussing organizations and events, but in this interview, we find out about Krista May herself!
We  discuss her background, and the experiences in her life that inform her activism today. We talk about what inspires her and what concerns her. We play and discuss an excerpt from an Angela Davis speech, in which Angela Davis adresses the term "diversity".

And we will  find out what music and what literature have motivated and sustained Krista during difficult times.

Mike and Zachary Honea discuss their project "Victor Shuler Movie"http://victorshulermovie.com/home/home.html as well as Zachary's other films.
Zachary Honea is a Texas filmmaker, whose film "The Root and the Offspring" won the "One to Watch Award" at the Red Wasp Film Festival this year. Mike Honea, his father, has joined Zachary on his filmmaking quest to unravel the family mystery of Victor Shuler.
This project is described as: "One family searches for the truth about Victor Shuler, a well known relative in the family, whose silent films and production records have been lost to history. From Texas to Colorado, Missouri to California, and across the hundred year gap that spans his birth to the current day, they will not stop until they find the truth: who is Victor Shuler, and what happened to his films?"

Marnie Krajicek is a College Station native who has adopted 2 children that she raises, along with her husband, in the Brazos Valley. She is also a yoga teacher for children and adults in the area.

In this interview she discusses  the politics of adoption, and what parents considering adoption should be prepared to encounter with this decision.

Our guest is Nancy Cooke De Herrera.  In her autobiography "Beyond Gurus" (the paperback version is called "All You Need Is Love")  http://www.amazon.com/All-You-Need-Love-Spirituality/dp/1588720411  she describes a life of subtle defiance in order to lead a life of adventure.
The loss of her soulmate was the impetus for a lifelong spiritual journey, in which she served as the right hand person to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the sixties and became one of the first U.S. meditation teachers. She shares stories from her days in Rishikesh at the ashram where she was liason to John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney and other stars.
Her meditation students included Greta Garbo, heiress Doris Duke, Madonna, Sheryl Crow and many others.
She has met more yogi's, guru's, sadhu's and holy men than most men or women on the planet. As one friend stated "Dining with Nancy is like a visit to the United Nations".

It is the mission of the BVCAA to assist in the empowerment of individuals, families, and communities to reach their full potential economically, educationally, health-wise, culturally and socially.
They provide services such as Community Health Centers, Energy/Housing Services, Head Start, HIV Prevention, and WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Nutritional Services.

Interview with Dr. Andrew Kirkendall, associate professor of history at A&M. He is the author of a new book “Paulo Freire and the Cold War Politics of Literacy”. 

 Paulo Freire, born in 1921, was a native of Brazil’s impoverished northeast. He later developed adult literacy training techniques that involved consciousness-raising, encouraging peasants to see themselves as active citizens. Later his work, and political pressures, led to Freire’s brief imprisonment, and then to more than a decade and a half in exile. His pioneering life and work remain influential today.

In this interview, we talk to Dr. Kirkendall about his research on Paulo Freire, and the evolution of the Left in Latin America in the 60s and today.

Dr. Thomas Green is a professor of Anthropology at Texas A&M, and he specializes in folklore and linguistics. In this interview, Dr. Green discusses his current research on the symbolic dimensions of martial arts, martial arts in African-American cultures, and relationships among indigenous martial systems and indigenous dance.

An interview with Thomas Saldias by Vandy, in which he discusses the concept of empowering women and communities through sustainable practices in hunting and fishing.
 
Thomas Saldias is a Doctoral student at A&M in the wildlife and fisheries department. He is most passionate about sustainable use of wildlife and  works on projects around the world to promote the healthy practices. He is also a representative for Latin America for the Safari Club International where he works to attain legal rights for rural residents in these countries.

Our guest on "Our Voices, Ourselves"  is Dr. Ashley Currier, professor in the Sociology Dept. and the Women and Gender Studies Dept. at Texas A&M.

    In this interview, Diedra Lawrence and Nicole Cherry, 2 members of the Marian Anderson String Quartet discuss their music and their Community School of Music, began in 2009 in Bryan as a "needs based" school, meaning no adult or child will be turned away due to inability to pay.
